Presenting the Award during the School’s annual Chairman’s Reception held November 7, 2013, Board Chairman Dave McDonough praised Bailar’s skill and dedication as an exceptional business leader who has made outstanding contributions to the School’s continued success. “Let me share with you just a few examples of the impact that Joan has had on the School and why she is so deserving of this award,” McDonough said, highlighting her years of service on the Board. In addition, McDonough noted Bailar’s enthusiastic support for the School’s alumni – including those she taught and mentored as an LFGSM faculty member from 1995-2011 – her charitable giving, founding of an endowed scholarship fund, and community outreach initiatives. “Through her Board and committee work, Joan has shown she is a true champion for investing in quality education and providing strategic and functional leadership.”

Bailar built her business career as a healthcare industry executive where she gained a broad view of this dynamic and complex industry. In 1995, after leaving the two companies she founded, Bailar was an independent consultant in the healthcare industry. During her career, she also has held executive positions with large health care corporations, teaching centers and hospitals. Since her retirement from Advocate Health Centers, Bailar has remained active in the business community, sharing her time and talents with various non-profit organizations, including LFGSM.

As an LFGSM faculty member, Bailar taught courses in Strategy, Organizational Change and Strategic Thinking. Bailar is a founding member of the School's Outcomes Assessment Council, a group of leaders from the School’s faculty and management organized with the mission to conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and recommend strategies to achieve continuous improvement throughout the program.
