This year, Lake Forest Graduate School of Management celebrates its 70th anniversary. And because we recognize that we owe our seventy years of achievement in graduate education and leadership development to our more than 10,000 students and alumni, we have invited current students and alumni to “Share Your Lake Forest MBA Impact Story.”

We have received many engaging stories explaining how the Leadership MBA program has impacted our students’ and alumni’s professional and/or personal lives. Here, we share an inspiring success story from one of our alumni. Our LFGSM alumni and students can still submit their stories through April 30, 2016.

Overcoming Roadblocks with the Help of LFGSM

Liam Farrell, Senior Director at Astellas Pharma, realized over four years ago that if he wanted to advance into senior management, he would need further education. “I’ll never forget it,” Farrell wrote about that realization. He was presenting a project update to the General Manager of his company when he was asked some financial questions that felt “like another language.”

Farrell, like many members of the workforce, experienced the frustration of being given opportunities to interact with senior management while lacking the technical knowledge to understand and participate in their discourse. It was a roadblock solved by his decision to pursue graduate education.

“LFGSM not only gave me the knowledge I needed to fully understand my projects and the strategic implications of our team decisions,” Farrell wrote, “but it also gave me tremendous confidence in my discussions, actions and decisions. After completing my program I had the skills, knowledge, and confidence to take on any business challenge.” Farrell asserts that it was his application of these key capabilities that allowed him to get promoted twice in four years, to Director and now Senior Director. “LFGSM”, he says, “unlocked my future.”
