How much time will I need to spend on class preparation?
LFGSM instructors should expect to spend from six to eight hours preparing for each class session.

How long is each class?
Class sessions are three and a half hours long.

What is the length of each course?
Most courses run 10 weeks. There are a small number of courses that are offered in a 5-week format during the term.

Where do classes meet?
Classes meet at our three campus locations: downtown Chicago, Schaumburg, and Lake Forest. Programs are also offered on-site at select corporate locations including Allstate in Northbrook and BlueCross BlueShield Association in downtown Chicago.

When do classes meet?
Classes meet once per week: Monday – Thursday evenings, Saturday mornings, or Saturday afternoons. Summer courses meet twice per week  for five weeks on Monday and Thursday evenings.

Do the class times vary by campus or location?
Yes, class times per campus or location are as follows:

  • Downtown Chicago Campus
    Evening classes only: 5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Schaumburg Campus
    Evening classes only: 6:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
  • Lake Forest Campus
    Evenings: 6:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
    Saturday mornings: 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
    Saturday afternoons: 12:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • On-Site at Allstate
    Evening classes only: 5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • On-Site at BlueCross BlueShield Association

What is LFGSM's academic calendar?
LFGSM's academic year runs from late August through June and consists of four 10-week terms. There is also a 5-week summer term in which elective courses are offered in an accelerated format.

How are teaching schedules determined?
At LFGSM, we recognize the importance of scheduling jobs, family, and teaching. Teaching assignments are determined each spring prior to the upcoming academic year, and are scheduled for the entire year, whenever possible. We make every attempt to accommodate each faculty member's requests as to location, term, and class meeting day.

How are faculty members compensated?
LFGSM offers a competitive compensation plan with increases based upon achievement of milestones for number of courses taught, classroom effectiveness, involvement in development initiatives, and support of LFGSM's Leadership Learning™ philosophy. Compensation is also provided for service on select councils.

How does LFGSM prepare faculty members for the classroom?
New faculty members attend a ten-week mentoring program prior to teaching their own class. Additionally, a new faculty workshop is held annually to introduce various teaching techniques, presentation skills, and other methods of classroom facilitation. Mentees and new faculty members are encouraged to attend other workshops during the year on topics related to teaching.

How are faculty members recognized?
Faculty members are recognized annually at the Faculty Reception and Awards Dinner. Recognition is given for teaching excellence and for the achievement of milestones for number of courses taught. The recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Award is honored at the commencement ceremony and also delivers a commencement address.
