Lake Forest Graduate School of Management recently presented its prestigious Distinguished Faculty Award to Anthony P. Poidomani, Jr., for his excellence in teaching. This award is given each year by the graduating MBA class to an instructor whose teaching has made a distinct difference in the lives and careers of his or her students.
“Among these giants of industry, who desire to share their knowledge and experience with the students, this faculty is a group of men and women I admire and respect immensely,” said Poidomani, as he addressed the Lake Forest MBA Class of 2007 from a stage full of faculty on June 24th. “To stand up here is truly humbling. To you, the students, thank you for thinking of me. I hope, in some small way, I was able to build upon your talents and capabilities as you continue to make a difference in your careers.”
Poidomani joined the business leader faculty at LFGSM in 1995 and has since taught the fundamentals of managerial accounting to hundreds of business professionals. Former student Kathleen Byrd, MBA Class of 2007, cited Poidomani’s “contagious enthusiasm,” “passion for living and learning,” and ability to “teach from the heart,” as the attributes that distinguish him in the memories of his students. Byrd explained that Poidomani is able to help his students understand the big-picture implications of their business decisions.
Poidomani is the Director of Global Customer Service Operations at Hospira, a leading global hospital products company. Prior to joining Hospira, he has held many positions of financial leadership, including President/Owner of Maksyn Financial Services, Controller at True Value, Chief Financial Officer at Net Unlimited, and Finance Leader of North America Customer Financial Services at Quaker Oats.
Poidomani is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a BS from Ithaca College and an MBA from Loyola University. In addition to his very successful professional career, he has served on the faculty at LFGSM for 12 years, and is the treasurer at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Barrington.
“Tony’s enthusiasm and positive energy are clearly displayed both in the classroom and at faculty meetings,” said Sue Lawler, Associate Dean of LFGSM’s Chicago campus. “We are thrilled that the students recognized such a passionate instructor who is able to take them on an educational journey in accounting.”
The Distinguished Faculty Award is granted annually to one faculty member selected by the graduating class as an instructor who inspired and motivated them to think critically, apply knowledge creatively, and communicate effectively. Graduates also consider the teacher’s commitment to academic excellence, integrity in student relationships, and enthusiasm for their subject area. Poidomani met and surpassed all of these criteria, earning the wholehearted support of many students for having had a profound impact on their educations, their careers and their lives.
“What makes Lake Forest Graduate School such a special place is our talented and dedicated faculty,” said John Popoli, President & CEO of LFGSM. “Tony is a sterling example of what is possible when business leaders are passionate about sharing their expertise so that other professionals, in turn, can contribute more effectively to the world of business.”
