Distinguished Faculty AwardDuring the ceremonies, Ellen McMahon, LFGSM Dean of Faculty Relations & Degree Programs, introduced John P. Pappas as the Distinguished Faculty Award for 2014. The Award is granted annually to a member of the faculty in recognition of excellence in inspiring and motivating students, commitment to academic excellence, intellectual rigor, teaching enthusiasm and integrity in student relationships.
John Pappas has been involved with LFGSM for over twenty years, and is a passionate advocate for the field of marketing and for the development of positive and ethical work environments. His commitment to the School is seen in his teaching, his participation in the school's Board, and in the student recruitment and admissions process.
Accepting the award and addressing the Class of 2014, Pappas explained how the newly earned MBA degrees will help the graduates to overcome challenges in their professions. He explained that the path to career prosperity will likely be a bumpy one, but he is confident that the graduates are prepared to face these situations with the skills they have learned, "Through real-life examples hypothetical scenarios, class exercises, business simulations, and case studies, you have honed your critical thinking skills. This vital leadership skill is manifested in the advanced business acumen and the more sophisticated executive decision-making capabilities that each of you now possess." Pappas confidently ended his speech saying, "These skills will allow you to thrive in difficult situations, when many others cannot."
Pappas has an undergraduate degree from Drake University in Public Administration. He earned his MBA from LFGSM in 1992 and joined the faculty that same year where he taught Ethical Leadership & Decision-Making, Managing the Sales Function and a popular Marketing course.
