Accounting for Decision Making is among the first courses that LFGSM students encounter in their programs. Topics covered in the course include but are not limited to:

  • Income Statement and Profit Planning
  • Cost Behavior
  • Relevant Costs for Decision Making
  • Balance Sheet
  • Cash Flow Statement
  • Variance Analysis and Performance Management
  • Cost Systems

The Accounting Tutor is expected to:

  • Patiently explain the concepts to a student with a non-accounting background
  • Reinforce the concepts learned in class that a student is having difficulty in understanding
  • Provide feedback and help with homework problems
  • Meet every week of the term for 1.5 hours (if required) by phone or in person to provide educational support to the student
  • Report promptly to the LFGSM liaison if the tutoring relationship with the assigned student is not working out

The Accounting Tutor is not responsible for:

  • Student performance or grades in the Accounting class
  • Setting up the time and agenda for weekly meetings
  • Counseling students for problems that are non-academic
Qualifications:
  • An MBA or a CPA and/or significant experience in an accounting role (7 years or more)
  • Thorough understanding of managerial accounting concepts
  • Prior experience or deep interest in tutoring MBA students
  • Dependable and prompt
  • Flexible, friendly, patient and optimistic
