RO(G)I: Return On (Gift) Investment - July 2006 through June 2007

Every step of our day is carefully thought out to bring us closer to our vision of being recognized as “the preferred business management education choice and the standard against which other providers are measured.” Whether it’s student interaction, alumni events, fundraising, program enhancement or faculty development – it is always with that same purpose.

LFGSM realized many school-wide achievements during this fiscal year. Here are a few examples of note:

LFGSM School News
  • John Rogers, Founder and CEO, Ariel Capital Management, LLC / Ariel Mutual Funds ,  accepted LFGSM’s 2007 Distinguished Executive Award for his outstanding career achievements and commitment to education.
  • LFGSM continues to participate in the Higher Learning Commission’s Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP), and has begun work on its first three strategic action projects.
  • For the second year in a row, LFGSM was named to the “2007 Companies that Care” Honor Roll.
  • Steve Ummel, Director, Healthcare Consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, received LFGSM’s 2006 Distinguished Director Award for outstanding service and leadership.
  • John Landgraf, ‘02, Valedictorian, Senior V.P. - Global Pharmaceutical Operations for Abbott Laboratories and Chicago 2016 Games Design -Venues Leader shared with the School how Chicago won the 2016 Olympic Bid.
  • The 2007 graduating class named Tony Poidomani, Director of Global Commercial Operations at Hospira, Inc. the Distinguished Faculty Award recipient.
  • Beth Bronner, President, LERA Consulting, and Anne Ireland, Vice President, Business Development, CDW Corporation, elected to the LFGSM Board of Directors.
  • The Distinguished Alumni Award was established and awarded to John Landgraf, ‘02 and to Jim Leader, ‘96.

Special Gifts
  • Robert G. Shaw pledged $25,000 to launch the Shaw Family Scholarship, providing support to female students, especially single parents, who need financial assistance.
  • Tovar Snow Professionals (Jeff Tovar, Class of ‘03) donated $13,600 in services.Fifth Third Bank was a Title Sponsor for the 2007 Scholarship Golf Outing & Dinner, donating $10,000 for the second year in a row.
  • ITW was a Title Sponsor for the 2007 Scholarship Golf Outing & Dinner, donating $10,000.
  • Nearly $117,000 in scholarship funds were awarded to LFGSM students in need—a 46% increase over last year.
  • 465 individuals and corporations made gifts to the School, a new LFGSM record.

MBA Program
  • 319 new students enrolled for academic year 06-07, a 6% increase over last year.
  • 236 students graduated at the June Commencement Ceremony.
  • The top 5% of the 2007 graduates were recognized with the prestigious Hotchkiss Scholar distinction.
  • Students returning in the fall will have a new online learning management system, powered by industry leader Blackboard, to enhance the in-class learning experience.
  • A new faculty development initiative, Success in Teaching Excellence Program (STEP), was designed by a team of faculty and deans, and will be launched in the 2007-2008 academic year.
  • A newly revised curriculum based on 10 management competencies valued in the workplace for career advancement was finalized and piloted.

Lake Forest Corporate Education (LFCE) Programs
  • LFCE launched its first business leadership certificate for IT professionals, including a program in India.
  • After 12 months of research and over 35 interviews, LFCE presented its new white paper, "Unleash the Business Potential of Your Technical Experts".
  • Award-winning author Paul Glen and other IT leaders presented “Leading Geeks: Developing the Business Potential of IT Professionals”
  • LFCE enjoyed an 85% client retention rate for the second year in a row, and an average of 4.53 / 5.0 on customer satisfaction ratings.
  • LFCE welcomed 10 new clients.
  • LFCE team members met with over 65 finance executives to study the needs of those in the finance industry.
  • Return on Learning Investment (ROLI) findings in leadership development for scientists were presented by LFCE at a prestigious R & D professional conference.

Alumni Activities
  • The Distinguished Alumni Awards were established to recognize LFGSM Alumni whose professional achievements have distinguished them, benefited their communities, and brought credit to LFGSM, and those Alumni who have demonstrated outstanding service to LFGSM.
  • LFGSM was proud to host Boston Consulting Group's Harold L. Sirkin, Senior Vice President & Director, and Worldwide Leader, Global Operations Practice and the co-author of “Payback: Reaping the Rewards of Innovation”, as a featured speaker at a Business Education Forum.
  • Stay Connected @ LFGSM , the monthly Alumni e-Newsletter, celebrated its second anniversary.
  • LFGSM launched a new Alumni website that features dynamic content, improved look and feel, and more intuitive navigation.
  • Nearly 740 Alumni actively participated in the life of LFGSM this year.
  • LFGSM hosted "Putting Your MBA to Work”, featuring an Alumni panel that gave students real-world insights on how to leverage their MBAs.
  • 136 Golfers and 22 sponsors supported the 2007 LFGSM Scholarship Golf Outing & Dinner, raising over $55,000 for the Scholarship Fund.
  • 64 Alumni referred new students to LFGSM.
  • Results of the Hotchkiss Scholarship Annual Phone-a-Thon increased 9% to over $20,000.
